Frank continued giving his son, Dirk, an allowance even after Dirk got his first job. After all, on his small starting salary there was no way Dirk could cover his student loans, car payments and rent and still live. But that was almost a decade ago and Frank has yet to pull the plug because some financial emergency always seems to bedevil Dirk. Should Frank ever stop subsidizing his son and, if so, should he set an end date, taper off or make it a guillotine chop?
