Sparks fly when a neurotic, twice-divorced sci-fi writer—“the other son”—moves back home with his mother as a way to figure out why he can’t sustain a relationship with women. This witty comedy takes a wry and sly look at the propensity of some yuppies to blame their parents for everything that’s gone wrong in their lives. At the same time it pokes fun at the older generation’s keeping up a good front to world, no matter what. In the end mother and son find common ground and each grows in surprising ways. I loved it when Debbie’s character says to her son, “I’m turning in now; I’m tired. We can berate me in the morning.”
